South Africa

Pick n Pay Stores Limited- Results for the 52 weeks ended 26 February 2023 and final dividend declaration.

  • Group turnover for the year was R106.6 billion, up 8.9% compared to the previous year's R97.9 billion.
  • Gross profit margin increased to 19.6% from 18.8%.
  • Trading expenses amounted to R20.2 billion, an 11.9% increase from the previous year's R18.0 billion.
  • Trading profit was R3,048.0 million, a 5.6% increase from the previous year's R2.886.5 million.
  • Profit before tax and capital items was R1.800.2 million, a 0.4% decrease from the previous year's R1.807.7 million.
  • The Company will pay a dividend of 140.3 cents per share on Monday, 5 June

Gold Fields Limited- Operational update for the quarter ended 31 March 2023

  • Group attributable equivalent gold production was 577koz, largely flat YoY (down 4% QoQ).
  • The Australian region produced 243koz, down 6% YoY (down 12% QoQ).
  • South Africa reported Q1 2023 production of 88koz, 13% higher YoY (up 16% QoQ).
  • Mines in Ghana produced 193koz (including 45% of Asanko), down 8% YoY (down 3% QoQ).

Kal Group Limited- Results For The Six Months Ended 31 March 2023

  • The results were dominated by poor economic conditions and high levels of loadshedding.
  • Revenue increased by 68.4% to R12.09 billion compared to the previous year.
  • EBITDA increased by 30.9% to R521.3 million compared to the previous year.
  • An interim dividend of 50.00 cents per share has been declared for the six months ended March 31, 2023.

Mondi PLC- Trading update

  • Underlying EBITDA from continuing operations was 351m, flat compared to Q4 2022.
  • Lower average selling prices, softer demand due to destocking, and lower input costs were factors.
  • Corrugated packaging demand was lower, while Flexible Packaging saw stable performance.
  • Uncoated Fine Paper demand in Europe was lower with declining prices.
  • Mondi continues to invest in growth and execute expansionary capital projects.

Famous Brands Limited- Trading statement

  • Basic EPS is expected to be between 491 cents and 555 cents, representing an increase of between 55% and 75%.

  • EPS of $0.01 beating expectations of -$0.03.
  • Revenue of $1.51B beating expectations of $1.45B.
