South Africa

The Spar Group Limited- Unaudited interim results for the six months ended 31 March 2022

  • Group turnover improved 5.2% to R67 605.2 million.
  • Operating profit grew 7.1% to R1 832.0 million.
  • EPS decreased 1.8% to 605.5 cents.
  • HEPS grew 3.5% to 642.6 cents.
  • The board has declared a dividend of 175.0 cents per share, which is a decrease of 37.5%.
  • Net asset value per share grew 10.4% to 4 373.9 cents.

Naspers

  • Regulators in China approved new video games.
  • The stock is up 9% following the news.

Sanlam Limited- Operational update for the four-month period ended 30 April 2022

  • The Sanlam Group recorded a satisfactory performance for the first four months of 2022, despite global supply chain disruptions, global financial markets decline, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, surging inflation and floods in KZN.
  • Sanlam completed the package of transactions that finalises their partial exit from the UK, with only a focused international asset management business remaining.
  • The acquisition of the Alexforbes retail and group life businesses was also completed in the period.
  • Net result from financial services decreased by 7%, largely due to the catastrophe events at Santam and the impact of market volatility on credit spread earnings as well as SEMs general insurance float returns.
  • Net value of new covered business was down by 16%.
  • Group net client cash inflows of R26,7 billion were down 5%.
  • Group solvency ratio remains strong at 171% on 31 March 2022.

 

U.S.

AMD

  • AMD has priced its previously announced $1B debt offering.
  • AMD will sell: -$500M of 3.924% notes due in 2032 and $500M of 4.393% notes due in 2052

Microsoft & Docusign 

  • Microsoft and Docusign announced an expansion of its global strategic partnership.
  • "Our collaboration with DocuSign enhances our ability to help our customers bring the agreement processes directly into the flow of work" CCO Judson Althoff.

Shopify

  • Shopify shareholders have agreed to a 10:1 stock split.

Apple

  • Apple has reportedly agreed to acquire an untitled Formula One racing movie that has Top Gun: Maverick filmmaker Joseph Kosinski directing and Brad Pitt attached to star according to The Hollywood Reporter.
  • Apple today was awarded a patent for "Electronic devices having displays with curved surfaces and image transport layers".

Ark Invests

  • Cathie Wood and Ark Invest's had assets under management of $15.3B across all its ETFs as of June 1st down 48% from the start of the year according to Bloomberg.

PayPal

  • PayPal announced that users will now be able to transfer cryptocurrency from their accounts to other wallets and exchanges according to Tech Crunch.

Starlink

  • Elon Musk says Starlink is 3-4 years away from an IPO.

Tesla

  • Tesla opened its first physical store in Inner Mongolia in Hohhot.
