South Africa

Capitec Bank Holdings Limited- Financial Results For The 6 Months Ended 31 August 2022

  • Operating profit before tax increased by 17% to R5.894 billion.
  • EPS increased by 19% to 4 035 cents.
  • The directors will declare a gross interim dividend of 1 400 cents per ordinary share, up 17%, and will be paid on Monday, 24 October 2022.

Gemfields Group Limited- Interim Results for the Six Months Ending 30 June 2022

  • Revenue grew 99% to US$193.2 million.
  • EBITDA grew 141% to US$104.8 million.
  • The company declared a dividend of USD 1.266 per ordinary share and will be paid on Friday, 4 November.

Berkshire Hathaway

  • Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway has filed for its purchase of 5.99 million more shares of Occidental.
  • Berkshire now owns 194.4M shares of Occidental.

Google

  • Google has announced a bunch of new features for Google Maps:
    • "Immersive view." 
    • "Neighborhood vibe."
    • "Search with Live View."
    • "Eco-friendly routing for developers."

Amazon

  • Amazon is currently announcing new updates to its Astro in-house robot.
  • It will now be able to detect cats and dogs and alert you to what they are doing.
  • Amazon is raising the hourly wages for warehouse, and shipping workers.
  • The company says it is starting to pay more than $19 per hour.
  • Amazon says these raises will cost around $1 Billion a year.
  • Amazon is closing some of its U.S. call centers as part of its shift to remote work.
  • The company expects to save in real estate costs.

Volkswagen

  • Volkswagen just priced shares of the Porsche IPO at top of its projected range at 82.50 a share.

Starbucks

  • Starbucks just increased its quarterly dividend to $0.53 per share up from $0.49 per share.

Verizon

  • Verizon and the NFL have announced that NFL Plus will be one of the streaming services offered on Verizons upcoming subscription management platform "Plus Play."

Amazon & BMW

  • Amazon and BMW have announced a partnership that will see BMW cars have Alexa integrated into them.

Meta

  • Meta has just unveiled a new AI system that let people turn text prompts into video clips.
